For a small island Bonaire packs a big punch. Not only is there fabulous diving all along the leeward (west) coast, but it’s also one of the most fascinating and interesting places we’ve visited because of it’s history and the diversity of cultures, landscapes, wildlife, and activities. Oh, and did I mention the cacti? Lots and lots and LOTS of cacti, which will feature later in the blog… Continue reading “Cactus – Bonaire Pt 1”
The Birds – Aves de Barlovento
This is why we go cruising. To see those small corners of the world that are still pristine and mostly unscarred by mankind’s heavy footprint. It’s another wonderful island with a rich history, an abundance of lush tropical vegetation, its’ own rum distillery and cocoa processing factory, restaurants galore, and the friendliest of people. Let’s Go Fly A Kite – Carriacou
Ever since we bought our second-hand spinnaker in Annapolis, it’s been quietly sitting in the forward locker waiting for its’ moment of glory. In the Caribbean, the wind is either too strong, or from the wrong direction for kite-flying and in fact we’ve only seen one other yacht flying a spinnaker in the whole time we’ve been here. A rare species indeed. So it was with some excitement that we thought that possibly, just possibly, we might get to play with the kite on the way to Carriacou.
